Trinity Doodle Puppy Layette Suggested Shopping List

Veterinarian lined up if you do not already have one

Trainer lined up if you do not already have one

Groomer lined up if you do not already have one

Crate – a 36" crate with a divider is suggested so that your puppy can grow with it without having to replace your crate.  Please note that a smaller crate may very well be acceptable and does seem more appropriate for their tiny size now but we try to eliminate the need for 2 different crate purchases.  We do not recommend using a crate pad, the puppies are accustomed to not having one and often it delays potty training or allows for potty training set backs and occasionally chewing which can pose significant health hazards.

Pet Bed, our very favorite is the washnzip pet bed – the initial cost is more than some but when I add up all that I have spent over the years on beds that I threw away (mostly because they didn’t wash well), I so wish we would have invested in several of these much earlier. If you are interested in a washnzip bed, they have given us a discount code to share with our families, TRINITY ~ https://washnzippetbed.com/worlds-best-dog-bed/

Baby gates if you wish to gate off an area of your home or puppy play yard to offer an alternative to the crate when they are not under your direct supervision

Food and Water Bowls – we recommend stainless steel or ceramic. We do not recommend raised feeding bowls or plastic bowls.

Leash (later, we will supply a slip lead leash in your Gotcha Day bag) We do NOT recommend retractable leashes!

Collar (later, we will supply one in your Gotcha Day bag)

Food – Your puppy was weaned on raw food, however we realize many families may not continue this and they have transitioned to kibble, with an occasional meal of raw. Your puppy is currently eating both Fromm Puppy Gold and Life’s Abundance All Life Stages Formula.  We advocate rotating foods and have done this for over 14 years, in doing so you will always have a plan b in the event there is every an issue with your food of choice (and you will already know they do well on it), you will not help to create a picky eater and it will assist in bridging nutritional gaps. Here is a link for ordering Life’s Abundance ~ https://www.lifesabundance.com/Home.aspx?realname=20602384&cat=5&hdr=&Ath=True.  For additional information about our food suggestions, please email us and we will send it to you privately.

Training Treats – some of our favorites are Stella and Chewys Meal Mixers (small size works very well for treats), Fromm, Zukes, Real Meats, Ziwi Peak,.  There are a number of premium treats available, some we do not recommend.  If you ever have any questions regarding these we are always available for questions.

A selection of good chews (NO RAWHIDE) and toys.  These ideally would include different textures and different levels of engagement.  Examples of these are soft stuffed toys w/squeakers, balls, rope toys, something for chewing like antlers, cow tendons, bully sticks, knuckle bones, moo tubes, yak chews, etc… Our pups seem to favor the fabric coated kongs (either canvas or fleece), skinnies (no stuffing long thin toys) and zippy paws burrow toys. We will also be sending him/her with a toy (& blanket) that your puppy and littermates played with here so that they will have comfort scents from home.  We have found that Homegoods, TJ Maxx and sometimes Ross can be great places to find furbaby items.

A few of our favorite products to consider keeping on hand:

Azmira Yucca Intensive - a must have in our cabinet, helps everything from digestive isses (IBS, diverticulitis, upset stomach), hot spots, mobility & joint issues - think any inflammatory response.  I have even used this myself for diverticulitis and plantar fasciitis issues.

Natures Way Slippery Elm Capsules - great for digestive issues - diarrhea, vomiting, reflux, IBS, etc...  Slippery Elm coats and soothes mucous membranes (also found in some natural products for sore throats btw)

Activated Charcoal Capsules - helps to absorb toxins from the stomach and intestine if given soon after ingestion.

Coconut Oil - great for both internal and external application.

Oregano Oil - Immune system builder, fabulous at heading off or shortening illness.  Has antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic and anti fungal properties.

Lavender Oil - Helps to promote relaxation, we use a lot of this around holidays that involve fireworks and also at Halloween - both times can be very stressful for pets

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth - Exceptional natural pest prevention (fleas, ticks, other insects as well as intestinal worms). This also works very well as a non-toxic pest control alternative in your home and can be used internally by your family

Other potential safer pest prevention (flea/tick) products include wondercide, cedarcide and natural chemistry
